EUREKA! 2010 October 14-16 ~ Patras / Ancient Olympia ~ Greece

International Conference
for Undergraduate and Postgraduate Students in Computer Engineering, Informatics, related Technologies and Applications.

EUREKA!" is a forum for undergraduate and postgraduate students to present their research, and for community, academic and industry leaders to hear and discuss creative and scholarly work with the students.

Student research from computer sciences and computer engineering disciplines including related applications and technologies can be presented in this conference.

The five best papers will receive an award.

The main goals of the ”EYREKA!” conference are to promote the scientific creativity of the students and to provide a friendly forum for submitting proposals and presenting conference papers. Furthermore, ”EYREKA!” will facilitate the interaction of students with well known specialists in the field of their interest .

EUREKA! 2010 is soliciting contributions from postgraduate and undergraduate students on all aspects of Computer Engineering, Informatics, related Technologies and Applications including applications in Economy, Medicine, Engineering, Education. It is requested that papers submitting by students are written under the supervision of an academic coordinator. Papers can also be joint between students and more senior scientists.

Selected papers from the conference will receive an award and will be considered for publication in CS-URJ, Computer Science Undergraduate Research Journal (http://www.csurj.org).

On October 16th there will be a visit to the archaeological site of Ancient Olympia; in the evening there will be a gala dinner which will include the award ceremony .

"EUREKA!", which is the initiative of the High Performance Computing Laboratory (HPCLab) of the Computer Engineering and Informatics Department - University of Patras, Greece ,will be co-organised with several Academic institutions.

Google SIGIR 2010 Conference Grant

As part of Google's ongoing commitment to encouraging women to excel in computing and technology, we are pleased to announce the Google SIGIR 2010 Conference Grant to encourage more female computer scientists to attend and participate in the SIGIR 2010 conference , 19-23 July 2010, Geneva, Switzerland. We encourage all female computer scientists interested in information retrieval to apply.

Two people will be chosen from the applicant pool to receive:

  • free registration for the main conference. Accommodation not included.

  • up to 300 euros for travel costs from Google (given to the recipients at or after the event)

To be eligible for a conference grant candidates must:

  • Be a female working in or studying Computer Science/Information Retrieval

  • Maintain a strong academic background with demonstrated leadership ability

  • Attend at least 2 full days of the main conference

Workshop on Interoperable Social Media Applications WISMA 2010. 11th International Workshop of the Multimedia Metadata Community

In the Web 2.0, a growing amount of multimedia content is being shared on Social Networks. Due to the dynamic and ubiquitous nature of this content (and associated descriptors), new interesting challenges for indexing, access, and search and retrieval have arisen.
In addition, there is a growing concern on privacy protection, as a lot of personal data is being exchanged. Teenagers (and even younger kids), for example, require special protection applications; while adults are willing to have a higher control over the access to content.
Furthermore, the integration of mobile technologies with the Web 2.0 applications is also an interesting area of research that needs to be addressed; not only in terms of content protection, but also considering the implementation of new and enriched context-aware applications.
Finally, social multimedia is also expected to improve the performance of traditional multimedia information search and retrieval approaches by contributing to bridge the semantic gap. The integration of these aspects, however, is not trivial and has created a new interdisciplinary area of research.
In any case, there is a common issue that needs to be addressed in all the previously identified social multimedia applications: the interoperability and extensibility of their applications. Thus, the workshop is particularly interested in research contributions based on standards.

Recommended topics include, but are not limited to, the following:

Research Papers: Papers should describe original and significant work in the research and industrial practice of related topics. (i) Long papers: up to 8 pages, will normally be particularly focused on research studies, applications and experiments (ii) Short papers: up to 4 pages, will be particularly suitable for reporting work-in-progress, interim results, or as a position paper submission.

Applications and Industrial Presentations: Proposals for presentations of applications and tools, including reports on the application and utilisation of tools, industrial practices and models, or tool/system demonstrations. Abstract: 2 pages.

All submissions and proposals are to be in English and submitted in PDF format at the WISMA paper submission websiteon or before 28th February 2010. Papers should be formatted according to LNCS style. The workshop proceedings are to be published as a volume at CEUR Workshop Proceedings.

Best Paper Award

awarded as the BEST PAPER at the 2nd International Conference on
Agents and Artificial Intelligence (ICAART), Valencia-Spain, January 22-24, 2010.

ICAART received 364 paper submissions from 58 countries, in all continents. To evaluate each submission, a double blind paper review was performed by the Program Committee, whose members are highly qualified researchers in ICAART topic areas. Based on the classifications provided, only 165  were selected to be published in these proceedings and presented at the conference. Of these, 96 papers were selected for oral presentation (31 full papers and 65 short papers) and 69 papers were selected for poster presentation. The full paper acceptance ratio was 9%.

MMSP 2011-The Workshop on Multimedia Signal Processing

The Multimedia Signal Processing Technical Committee (MMSP-TC) of the IEEE Signal Processing Society, which is the organizer of the MMSP workshop, invites proposals to host the 2011 workshop edition.

The primary aim of the MMSP workshop is to promote the advancement of multimedia signal processing research and technology with special emphasis on the interaction, coordination, synchronization, and joint processing of multimodal signals.

Proposals are open to all regions, but to keep with the practice of regional rotation, preference will be given to proposals from Region 10 (Asia-Pacific). Proposals should be submitted electronically to MMSP-TC Chair, Dr. Philip A. Chou at pachou@microsoft.com by March 1, 2010.
